One example of how a charecters prejudice can affect life is Alexandra's family. Alexandra's son, Francis, is very rude. In one part of the book, Atticus speaks to the jury. He says, “you gentlemen, to this court, in the cynical confidence that their testimony would not be doubted, confident that you gentlemen would go along with them on the assumption—the evil assumption—that all Negroes lie, that all Negroes are basically immoral beings, that all Negro men are not to be trusted around our women, an assumption one associates with minds of their caliber.” This conversation between the jury and Atticus shows that he has to verbalize that not all African Americans are bad. This shows the well known fact that the jury has prejudices towards the African Americans. This affects life as there prejudices cause a guilty scentance for Tom Robinson. Another example is when dill realizes how mr.glimmer has prejudices towards African Americans. This is shown when dill says, “Well, Mr. Finch didn’t act that way to Mayella and old man Ewell when he cross-examined them. The way that man called him ‘boy’ all the time an‘ sneered at him, an’ looked around at the jury every time he answered—” Scout replies, “Well, Dill, after all he’s just a Negro.” These two quotes show how there is a deep rooted prejudice towards African Americans. First, dill shows how mr gimmes dislikes African Americans and thinks of them as less. Scout also shows how there is a deep rooted prejudice, because even though she likes calpurnia and others, her comment
