Throughout Harper Lees To Kill a Mockingbird, Atticus Finch displays moral integrity. One of the first times this is evident is the way he reacts to Jem wanting to shoot his air rifle. Atticus tells Jem, “Shoot all the bluejays you want, if you can hit'em, but remember it's a sin to kill a mockingbird (119). This shows Atticus wants to share his knowledge of morals with Jem. He wants Jem to understand when it's the right time time harm or kill a living creature and every thing has a purpose for living. rather than telling Jem to not kill a mockingbird, he says it's a sin to emphasize on the concept of doing what's right.
