The moral standard that Atticus has for himself is tremendously crucial to his way of life. He believes that everyone should be treated the same no matter the race. This is contradicting the majority of Maycomb, which is under the influence of the unbalance of racial equality. The tradition of racism in Maycomb is so heavily produced, that everyone believes Atticus is ludicrous for taking Tom Robinson’s unwinnable case. Atticus’ inner values tell him that he cannot give up on the case.
