Atticus expresses his love towards Scout in many different ways. He has taught her about school, tolerance and doing the right thing. That quote is basically saying that you shouldn’t judge a person and their actions until you learn more about them. Atticus teaches Scout about doing the right when he takes the Tom Robinson case because even though he knows they will probably lose he knows it is the right thing to do. He also trusts that others will do the right thing, this is shown when he helps out Mr. Cunningham and trusts that he will eventually pay him back.
Calpurnia showed Scout and Jem love by making sure they had good manners and taking them to her church. After Scout was rude to Walter Cunningham, Calpurnia pulled her aside and made sure she knew what she did was wrong. “There’s some folks who don’t eat like us but you ain’t called on to contradict ‘em at the table when they don’t. That boy’s yo’ comp’ny and if he wants to eat up the table cloth you let him, you hear?” (32). She always made sure that Scout was happy. After Scouts first day of school she made crackling bread. She let Scout watch her cook when she was bored and she always listened to her stories. Bringing the children to her church was a great act of bravery and love. He hid presents in the trunk of a tree where only Scout would look. “ One afternoon as I raced by, something caught my eye and caught it in such a way that I took a deep breath, a long look around, and went back” (44). When Miss. Maudie’s house was on fire Boo came and put a blanket around Scout because it was cold outside. “You were so busy looking at the fire you didn’t know it when he put the blanket around you” (96). When Mr. Ewell was attacking them it was Boo who kept them alive. Boo might have killed Mr. Ewell to protect Jem and Scout. Boo was willing to put himself into danger for kids he barely knew.
