Everyone no matter who they are or their age, we are always learning something. In the wonderful novel to kill a mockingbird [TKAM] Jem and Scout are constantly learning what it means to be a kind and true person. The setting is based in the south in a town called Maycomb county, Alabama. It takes place during the great depression in the mid 1930’s, during these hard times there are many lessons to demonstrate to Scout and the reader.
Thesis:
In Harper Lee’s novel [TKAM], there are many dramatic events that occur that teach Scout and the readers many lessons. In the beginning of the book Scout is six living in a society that prejudice against African Americans. There are many different situations in this book that Scout learns a variety of different lessons, from many different mentors in the book. Scout learns three important lessons such as, people should look at other’s point of view to understand them, don’t destroy the beauty in the world, and think for yourself before following the crowd.

The reason you should not kill a mockingbird as MIss Maudie said, 1"Mockingbirds don't do one thing but make music for us to enjoy. They don't eat up people's gardens, don't nest in corncribs, they don't do one thing but sing their hearts out for us. That's why it's a sin to kill a mockingbird.". This relates to Tom Robinson, a hard working African American who helped out around Mayella Ewell’s house. In the end he was charged for rape and sent to prison. Scout realized how wrong it was wrong someone who only did good, and later discovered he was killed as a result of a crime he didn’t
