One summer morning when I was about six years old, my family and I went to a dog show in Frankenmuth. We went from activity to activity just having a good time. We went to a bounce house, and my siblings and I jumped around for a few minutes and then got off. We got ready to leave the bounce houses when I turned my back on my family for a few seconds. When I turned back around I could not find them anywhere. I started getting scared and I looked around the bounce houses to try and find my family. When I did not see them I went back to my original spot and told an adult who worked there that I could not find my family. Pretty soon my dad came back for me and we met back up with the rest of my family. In this scenario I had to show my bravery, …show more content…
First, Jem’s bravery shows when he talks about going back to the Radley house to get his pants. Jem, Scout, and Dill had gone to the Radley house and when they ran away from it Jem’s pants got stuck and he had to leave them. Later that night Jem told Scout, “‘I’m goin’ after ‘em,’ he said. [...] Mr. Nathan had the other barrel waiting for the next sound he heard, be it nigger, dog … Jem knew that better than I” (74-75). The fact that Jem wants to go back to get his pants proves his bravery because he knows that Mr. Nathan would be waiting with his gun and if he makes even a slight noise Nathan may shoot his gunhe could be shot. Later in the novel, Jem shows his bravery when he tells Scout that he is not scared in order to keep her calm. Jem and Scout were walking home from Scout’s pageant when they realize that someone is following them. Scout asks Jem, “‘Jem, are you afraid?’ ‘No.’” (350). The fact that Jem tells Scout that he is not afraid proves that he is brave because he is saying what his sister wants to hear so that he can help her stay strong and not be scared. Jem also is shown as brave because he is trying to protect his sister by acting like he is not scared. Lee uses Jem’s speech to show that he is brave when he talks about going back to the Radley yard to get his pants and also when he tells Scout that he is not scared so that he can help her be brave

To Kill a Mockingbird has many examples of personal courage in the face of injustice, and many people who show it. Harper Lee’s novel To Kill a Mockingbird affected me in many ways and helped me understand what racism was like back then and how life was like in a town where everyone knows everyone. I, in my opinion, think that Jem showed the most courage out of all the people in the book. Even though he might seem wimpy, he does his best to protect others and stand up for what’s right. Jem in the beginning of the book is pretty young and doesn’t show much courage, but when he gets older he shows a lot of courage.…

One of the most significant quotes in Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird was uttered by Scout Finch in chapter 23, when Scout disagreed with her brother in a crucial manner when she said “Naw, Jem, I think there’s just one kind of folks. Folks” (Lee 227). This statement has more meaning to be uncovered than what is drawn from it when first read. The quote boldly deals with many of Lee’s themes of her novel, such as that racism classifies people into groups, innocence allows for idealized views, and that education can be used as a social construct. Lee uses Scout’s innocence to convey her message, as well as her conversation with Jem and earlier altercation with Aunt Alexandra to make her point.…
