An important theme in To Kill a Mockingbird is the change that’s happening in Maycomb county. A change in the way people judge and reason. One example of a change in To Kill a Mockingbird is the courthouse. It burned down years ago and Maycomb county inhabitants built a new courthouse around the old, burned one. Only the columns survive and they are symbols of the Maycomb county roots, which are trying not to be forgotten. This also reflects on the people of Maycomb, who are trying to bring justice and equality to Maycomb while holding on to their past, which was the exact opposite of justice and equality.
