In the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, a clear change in Jem’s actions can be seen. When Jem comes home to find Scout chewing gum she found in a Radley tree, Jem feels the need to control her and have her spit it out. “Jem stamped his foot. ‘Don’t you know you’re not supposed to even touch the trees over there? You’ll get killed if you do!’ ‘You touched the house once!’ That was different! You go gargle -- right now, you hear me? (37-38)’” There is a stigma that everything at the Radley house is poisonous and that you’ll get “killed if you [touch the tree]”. Jem goes along and follows theses claims without making his own opinions and feels the need to invest them into Scout. Moreover, Jem likes to be in charge and address his

To Kill a Mockingbird has many examples of personal courage in the face of injustice, and many people who show it. Harper Lee’s novel To Kill a Mockingbird affected me in many ways and helped me understand what racism was like back then and how life was like in a town where everyone knows everyone. I, in my opinion, think that Jem showed the most courage out of all the people in the book. Even though he might seem wimpy, he does his best to protect others and stand up for what’s right. Jem in the beginning of the book is pretty young and doesn’t show much courage, but when he gets older he shows a lot of courage.…

Because of the differing views of the large number of significant characters in To Kill a Mockingbird, it is very evident that perspective influences the actions of these characters. From the beginning of the novel to the very end, both Jem and Scout have matured an immense deal. However, without their different views on the world, they would not be able to understand certain situations in a different way. Even so, both of the siblings together got themselves into situations where their point of view is immensely vital to the way they handle the particular occurrences. For example, the siblings, along with Dill, choose to try to communicate with Boo Radley when they place a letter for him on the end of a stick that they then hold towards the…
