Step 1. Pre-viewing
The film I chose to watch was To Kill A Mockingbird,(record group source). I think that this film will display the hardships people faced during the depression era. This film will also contain life lessons like overcoming challenges, moving on with life and equality among men. It will also have characters of authority, teenagers/children and victims.

Step 2. Viewing
To Kill a Mockingbird is a Theatrical short subject. It has physical qualities such as dramatizations, some narration and is shown in black and wide. The atmosphere of the film is old timely and in the depression era giving it a dark, unwelcoming feeling. Most of the film is pretty laid back and slow leading up to dramatic impulses.

It did feature a lot of challenges for the characters throughout the film. For instance, Atticus had to decided whether to defend Tom Robinson in court even though the people of his town would turn their backs against him. The movie did feature a lot of stereotyping and racism. Most of the town people demonstrated discrimination towards the blacks. Tom was immediately tried guilty because he was black. Also, the children were prejudice towards Boo without knowing who he really was. The overall message throughout the film is to always respect one another despite differences. Atticus teaches his daughter not to fight with anyone no matter what they say to her. Atticus also shows tolerance towards prejudice people like Robert Ewel and the townsmen. This film has great strengths in communicating its message. It shows how stereotyping can hide the truth. The maker of the movie could have made it more fast paced to not bore some viewers, but deeper into the film the plot line became easier to follow and

There are several themes within To Kill a Mockingbird and that I was makes this book so special. The theme "people are people regardless of race or social class" is something that sticks out to me. Throughout the book many people believed different things. Atticus always felt that anyone that enters the courthouse deserves a fair trial. "There's something in our world that makes men lose their heads—they couldn't be fair if they tried" (Chapter 23).…

To Kill A Mockingbird authored by Harper Lee is a well written representation of what our society is thought to be. In the duration of the book people are criticized for their race, or bad reputation and there are people who are only great in the mind. Overall this story has a great moral lesson of “don’t judge a book by its cover,” mainly because everyone in the town thought that Boo Radley was a villain of the story and killed his parents however in the end they notice that they are wrong.…

To Kill a Mockingbird is a great book showing how people can grow together. We have Scout and Jem growing up together in an innocent childhood growing into adulthood. We have Tom Robinson, an African American man who, is going to court with Atticus Finch (scouts father) and is trying to defend Tom against the harming white community. Tom Robinson was accused of rape of a white female Mayella. The raping of a white woman by a black man is similar to The Scottsboro Trial in 1933, where 9 black men were falsely accused of raping two white women.…

To Kill a Mockingbird - “Atticus said to Jem one day, “I’d rather you shot at tin cans in the back yard, but I know you'll go after birds. Shoot all the Bluejays you want, if you can hit 'em, but remember it's a sin to kill a mockingbird." This passage was a major part of the story because of the symbolism that has now been revealed. The Mockingbird is a harmless and pure hearted animal, which in this story symbolizes Boo Radley and Tom Robinson. I chose this passage because of the strong meaning behind it.…

Though a lot of movies dealing with social oppression are very gloomy, this movie was light hearted and made people think as well. I was surprised at the amount of nudity in the film because I was not expected that for a long period of time. I feel like it really did not add anything to the story, but since they were loose women at a bar, the part fit well. It just did not have to have about 5 minutes of full on nudity with the progress of the movie not moving forward. I did like the fact that the author symbolized the old men as nature versus nurture.…

The film also showed positive companionship through a mix of races and a need to succeed. It showed a great comparison between Anne Frank and the students and helped relate to them.…
