To Kill A Mockingbird Essays: Racism Analysis

Racism was a huge problem back in Scout and Jem's time frame and even though we think we have resolved the issue it is still a problem in our world today. Scout and Jem go through some situations that involve racism, for example, Scout wants to go to Calpurnia’s house but Aunt Alexandra denies the idea. Another example is that Tom lost his court case because of his skin color when he obviously should have won due to Atticus’s good evidence. A real life example of racism would be the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) because they tried to make sure that black people had no political rights or economic quality. One situation of racism that Scout and Jem go through is when Atticus is gone for business and the children cannot go to church because it’s Sunday. So Calpurnia asked if they want to go to her church and Scout and Jem’s response was yes and so they attend church with her. Scout enjoys the church and had a great time because it was a new experience for her and she thought that not having hymn books was out of the ordinary for her. When when Scout gets home from church she finds out that Aunt Alexandra will be living with them because Atticus feels that there should be a mom like influence in the house. But, in the story of “To Kill a Mockingbird” the racism is towards African Americans. The examples in the book were Aunt Alexandra tells Scout that she’s not allowed to go to Calpurnia’s house and that Tom Robinson lost his court because of his skin color. Racism will never go away. There is always going to be people degrading others of how they live their life or of things they can’t help. But for now, we need to do what we can do to limit is as much as possible by treating others with respect and treating them
