Atticus Finch lives by a very simple philosophy, “You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view-- until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.”. This is a great way that Atticus lives his life, because it is impossible to fully understand why a person is the way they are until one has been in their skin and has seen the things that they have seen and experienced. Atticus Finch is a very honorable person because of the ways that he models his personal values, for specifically Scout and Jem to see and they will bring these pieces of advice and good leadership into their own adult lives.

By living his life this way, it is the reason that Atticus stays so calm in life because he knows that everyone is going through different things. He also realizes that everyone needs to be sensitive about things that others may be going through, even if one may be clueless about the topic. Furthermore, Atticus does not want to give Scout and Jem advice if he is not going to practice it in his own life, he does not want to be remembered by his kids as a hypocrite. This is why when he tells Scout not to fight with the kids with her fists, but rather with her words, Atticus feels a tug that he has to practice what he preaches when the Tom Robinson Case comes to him. Atticus is very good at leading his kids by example, if he only tells them what to do, with his words, he would not be a very effective example of leadership.
