Parenting is the most important job in the world it decides how a child grows up to be and how they act. Atticus from “To Kill A Mockingbird” has never hit Jem or scout, the outcome of that is they run wild and barely obey him. Harsh parenting is also not the solution Mr. Ewell's parenting is very harsh, he abuses Mayella when he's drunk and is not tolerable. The result of this is she tries to find love except her father's. Children need discipline, but every parent has their own style of parenting. The article “Harsh parenting can have ill effect on a child's mind” explains low-income parents, who struggle with overwhelming stress from hunger or joblessness or poor housing, treat their children harshly more often, researchers say. This relates to Mr. Ewell and Mayella , they live aside a dumpster and are very poor, he let's his anger out on Mayella. The article also states that harsh parenting can cause stress in children this is why Mayella kissed Tom Robinson. Not all poor families have harsh parenting, the article also says “Not all poor children suffer from toxic stress”. …show more content…
Jem and Scout run wild because Atticus does not punish them. The article also includes what happens to parents who do not punish their children, they release toxic hormones that elevates blood pressure, sugar level, and heart rate. In other words , Jem Jem and Scout are killing their father. The article includes parents try to do what's best for their children, even though their parenting style might be wrong they still try to do what's best for them and their child will learn and maybe use their parenting styles. In the book “ To kill a mockingbird” Dolphus Raymond states, “ The idea that age brings prejudice to children as they take on their parents misconceptions”.
