George Orwell, an English novelist, has said, “Happiness can exist only in acceptance.” With this wise quote, Orwell says that to be happy you have to tolerate individuals who are different than you, no matter their background, politics, race, or religion. Acceptance and tolerance are shown in the novel by Harper Lee, titled To Kill a MockingBird. Those who believe that acceptance and tolerance is an idea that is not possible are completely wrong. Without a doubt individuals can accept others who are different from themselves because it makes people treat others with respect, it adds diversity in a community and peace will be created. Itis apparent that the assertion that accepting those who are different, because it would make people treat each other with respect as in To Kill A Mockingbird. For example, this is expressed in the text “It ain’t right to do ‘em that way. In Texas v. Johnson Majority Opinion the concept of peace is made clear at the end of the Court Opinion, “The way to preserve the flag’s special role is not to punish those who feel differently about these matters. It is to persuade them that they are wrong.”(Brennan #2) In other words this says, the manner to keep the flag’s place is not to punish those who feel differently about these topics. It to convince them that they are wrong. Thus, this shows that we don’t want to cause more conflict between people but instead just try our best to convince them not to burn the flag.
