Atticus The Movie Essay

I think that the most effective scene was when the African Americans stood for Atticus Finch in the balcony when the case had concluded. This scene was so effective because it demonstrated how there is power in numbers when a group bands together. This power is shown because although Atticus and Tom Robinson lost the case, they all stood in unity to show that they all stand with Atticus. In real life we know that because of this “power in numbers”, eventually the African American community was able to break the practice of slavery in the U.S and many other laws that limited African Americans. I also think that this scene provided a good perspective how the African Americans were depicted as kind hearted and unified in the novel, while the white …show more content…
The character that I felt most strongly about in the film was Atticus. I believe that he was played perfectly in the film because of the presence he had, which is also exhibited in the book. In the book, Atticus is seen similarly to a hero figure, but has a very innocent and honest factor to him as well. Although he is fighting for what I think is the correct cause, he is still willing to consider what others have to say and be respectful about it. This is shown in the book when Bob Ewell spits in Atticus’ face and he has to retaliation. 99% of people would have fought back to Bob’s disrespect, but Atticus shows his maturity and turns the other cheek. These traits of Atticus are flawlessly transferred to the film in every way. His honesty is reflected in the film when Scout asks him a question and he answers truthfully no matter how poking the question is. For example, when Scout asks Atticus whether they are poor or not, Atticus replies yes without second thought. This not only shows that he is upfront with Scout, but that he also talks to her as his equal. Atticus also allows Scout to address him by his first name, showing that he does not look down upon someone with less intellect, but speaks to them on the same level he would with anyone else. While reading the book I felt strongly towards Atticus and those feelings were accurately transitioned into how I portrayed Atticus in the

During the 1930's, segregation towards African Americans were prevalent in the South. The novel To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, illustrated the theme of taking a stand when Atticus Finch stood up for Tom Robinson during a court case in which Robinson was accused for raping Mayella Ewell, Bob Ewell's daughter. Atticus shouldn't have taken a stand in this situation because it put people who had relations with him (including himself) in danger and people's opinions about him changed for the worst. Firstly, it is not worth it for Atticus to take a stand because his family was put in danger.…

As you mentioned he always takes stand for any wrong matter, when everyone was against black man, he was the one who fought the case for Mr. Robinson who was charged with false rape case. However, the white jury gives the decision against him but overall, he always there if anyone needs him. Mr. Atticus runs his family alone and without his wife he brought his children marvelously. He gives them a right to stand or to speak whenever they feel.…

August 15, 1935 Dear Atticus, I’m writing to you to ask you why you are not bothered by Bob’s comments and about the trial decision and if there is still hope for Tom Robinson. First of all, Bob Ewell threatened you and spit on you. How are you not affected in any way from this? I would probably react violently like I did with Mrs. Dubose and her Camelia bushes. How do you hold back your anger, if you even have any inside of you?…

Can you imagine trying to defend a black man in the South during the 1930’s when racism was still extremely prevalent? Well that is exactly what Atticus Finch did in To Kill A Mockingbird. Tom Robinson was a black man accused of rape. Atticus, being a lawyer, took on the role of defending him. It was known that Tom had a mangled left arm and had no purpose in doing the accused crime, but in the end racism won, over and the court 's decision was guilty purely based on skin color.…

This statement by Atticus shows how ignorant and racist white people thought of themselves as superior to Negroes in the 1930s, with Atticus being one of the exceptions. He then tells Scout, "it 's never an insult to be called what someone thinks is a bad name... it just shows you how poor that person is, it doesn 't hurt you". Atticus taught Scout to stop caring about the insults of people, because it won’t affect her. This is important…
