Miss Maudie explains how "People in their right minds never take pride in their talents," and Jem is quick to see that. As is true of To Kill a Mockingbird’s other moral themes, the novel’s final conclusion about education is that one of the most important lessons are those of sympathy and understanding, and that a sympathetic,apologetic understanding approach is the best way to teach these lessons on a consistent and regular basis. In this way, Atticus’s ability to put himself in his children’s shoes makes him an excellent teacher,leader, and guide while Miss Caroline’s rigid and vulgar commitment to the educational techniques that she learned in college makes her ineffective and even potentially dangerous. I myself can relate to the various themes that are constant in the novel, however one that i can truly connect with on a personal level and with the novel is the theme of was the importance of education. During my time in elementary school, I found that increasing knowledge in the classroom and exceeding my projected landmark of education proved vital in succeeding the later parts of life. Projects in the 4th and 5th grades guided me where I am today, even tho I lacked commitment during the winding moments of elementary school. However, It's proven that education isn't necessarily learned and provided in the classroom paralleling to Scouts situation with Atticus in the novel . Others have the various options to do as they wish, even if leading to learning and improving one's mental state out of the classroom helps then down the road in life.
