Discrimination When one thinks of discrimination, they think of judgement and aversion. But, its meaning is more abstruse than that. As human beings, we tend to reject those who are different regardless if that difference is small or large. According to Andrew Cuomo, “‘ Discrimination still exists in society and we must fight it in every from’” (Andrew Cuomo quotes). Considering the majority of individuals from the past tended to follow the crowd more often, discrimination was more obvious and in your face. Now, one is discriminated either directly or behind their backs, and it is predominantly through one’s gender, race, and/or religion. It did not matter if it was a child or an adult; even today it still does not matter. Whether one is from America, Europe, Asia, or any other continent someone will find something wrong with one’s race simply because they are different. Some individuals have a problem with change. In the book, To Kill a Mockingbird , a man named Tom Robinson was accused of rape. However, because of the color of his skin, what he said was seen as a lie and untrue. Atticus Finch, the man defending Tom, was also discriminated against by the community because he was a white man defending a black man. Cecil Jacobs, a member of the community, said,”’ My folks say your daddy was a disgrace an’ that nigga oughta hang from the water-tank”’(77). Even the children discriminate against others. People were starved, beaten, and/or murdered in cold blood. Therefore, many suffered because of their different beliefs. The Holocaust represents all of the hate one can have towards another because of their differences. Hitler felt that the white race was the master race and that all should follow his religious beliefs(Blath13).
