A little before five o’clock on the evening of October 18, 2011, I headed into the paddock behind my house to attend my horse, Atticus, my parents had bought six days earlier. Atticus started acting skittish and decided to move to the far corner of the field. On the other side of the fence separated my family’s house and our neighbor’s property, Terry Thompson. I noticed Thompson’s horses seemed even more agitated than my horse. They were circling around the field and in the center there was a dark shape. When the dark shape broke out, I noticed that it was a black bear. I wasn’t overly alarmed by the sight of the black bear because it wasn’t too big as black bears go and it started to run away in the opposite direction i was standing. I decided …show more content…
I told her there was a major problem. All these years I knew Thompson had wild animals, but I never knew how many. My mom and I assumed that the two animals came from his property. My mom called Terry, but noone answered. At that time was when she called 911. While I remained trapped in the barn, there was a window I peeked through and watched the menagerie grow. Along came a wolf, a second bear, this one much larger than the first, and this time the same lion I had seen before, was now pacing back and forth. I, all of a sudden, saw a tiger. This tiger was much bigger than the lion. The tiger started to snarl and soon went after the …show more content…
I made it all the way there and turned the TV on to see if any other news came through. The officers knew Terry Thompson drove a white van and had seen it parked in his driveway. The officers went back and got out of the cruiser and they both saw Terry Thompson, bloody and lying flat on his back. There was a pistol on the grass and a tiger gnawing at Thompson’s head. Most of the top of his head was missing but other parts of him had also been

I would rate this book 6 or 7 out of 10, because is was very detailed on what it was saying and I could imagine what was going on in the book. The thing that I did not like in the book. The story ends with Scout well on her way to growing up, as well. She now has some idea of what being a lady involves, and she no longer seems to mind so much. But importantly, Lee leaves readers with the remembrance that Scout the narrator is still a little girl.…

The path dropped down a steep embankment, I was doubtful a mounted rider could make without great difficulty. The ground looked extremely uneven and jagged rocks protruded from odd places among the shrubbery. “Let’s do this,” I commanded, leading my animal towards the place Scout had indicated was the beginning of our forest trek. After some difficulty, we guided our reluctant mules to the bottom of the embankment into a field of tall grass.…

Chapter 1 Page #5 “There was no hurry, for there was nowhere to go, nothing to buy and no money to buy it with, nothing to see outside the boundaries of Maycomb County. But it was a time of vague optimism for some of the people: Maycomb County had recently been told that it had nothing to fear but fear itself.” After researching the Great Depression, I discovered that the quote, “We have nothing to fear, but fear itself” is the most famous phrase from President Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s first inaugural speech. FDR gave his inaugural speech after his election in 1932. From this, we can conclude that the story began in 1933.…

As I was reading the first chapter, I am predicting the kids will not meet Boo. I think they will not meet Boo because he is locked up. The people in the town have never really seen Boo. Scout says, “People said he existed, but Jem and I had never seen him” (Lee 10). People had seen Boo before but by using the word “existed” it makes Boo seem very distant and hidden.…

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.” Margaret Mead, an American cultural anthropologist, recognizes something others may not, the power and importance of thought. Those who are grown assume that children do not and cannot understand the problems and troubles in their culture, but they do. The younger generation observe closely and have thought deeply, coming to many of the correct conclusions to certain problems adults cannot see because their vision has been clouded by life’s experiences. Harper Lee’s, To Kill a Mockingbird perceives the knowledge and awareness of children through the plot and setting of the story, centered when African American’s…
