In both the novel and film, the book presents the town being harassed by an ‘angry’ dog, and Atticus being the only one to defeat the dog. This represents Atticus having the characteristics to defeat racism and proves that he was willing to take charge in this position. A difference between novel and film is that in the book, Calpurnia goes with Atticus to comfort Mrs. Robinson after her husband's death. The reason she does not go with Atticus in the film is because the scene only focuses on him as the main character, and who is the one dealing with these problems based on racism alone.
