In the story, "To Kill a Mockingbird" written by the late, Harper Lee, and also in the film adaption of that book, there were many similarities and differences throughout the two stories. While watching the movie, one can notice these massive differences, such as how the film didn't include Jem reading to Mrs. Dubose daily, how Tom Robinson was actually killed by prison guards as he was trying to escape, and there is much, much more. Although the film had its similarities, it doesn't compare to the amount of differences throughout the adaption.

To begin, as written earlier, Jem doesn't ever even get mad, or read to Mrs. Dubose. In fact, she only pops up once in the movie, and that was for about a total of only 10 short seconds. There is a huge message given in the book that says you can't judge someone if you barely know them. In the book, Mrs. Dubose was a sick old widow who was addicted to morphine. But was also always mean to the children in the story. She was just lonely, and she was dying slowly and she knew it, so how could she be happy? The children in the story finally learn about this only after she dies from her sickness.

He says, "Tom Robinson’s dead. A deputy shot him just now. He was a new deputy and when taking him to the jail in the next county for safe keeping, Tom broke loose and ran. Deputy called to him to stop. He fired a few shots in the air and then when Tom didn’t stop, the deputy lost his head, shot towards him, he says, to would him, but missed his aim and killed him." The movie says he dies because he started running from the deputy on the same day. In the book, he dies because he was trying to escape while during an exercise period while at the jail a few days later. This is a big difference between the two stories and it was unnecessary to

In the book there weren’t as many air raids, but when there were they weren’t nearly as bad as in the movie. Additionally, the movie has more scenes than the book. For example, the movie had two thief scenes when the book only had one.…

The movie To Kill a Mockingbird, based on the novel written by Harper Lee showed the life of a child during the Great Depression and captured the theme of innocence taken away by evil. In most cases the book is always better than the film because life lessons are taken away in greater detail and are much easier to apply to a reader's life. Many movies stray from the book as did To Kill a Mockingbird, but also captured the scenes not shown in the book. Unlike the book, the movie had taken away the relationship that Boo Radley had with the children. One part of the book which was not shown in the movie was Mrs. Maudie's house fire when Boo Radley had draped a blanket over Scout’s shoulders while Jem and Scout were standing in the cold.…

Besides being the sassiest, most disrespectful mutts who ever passesher way, we were told that it was quite a pity that our father had not remarried after our mother’s death. I did not remember our mother, but Jem did- he would tell me about her sometimes and went livid when Mrs. Dubose shot us this message”. This quote proves that Mrs. Dubose is a mean and evil lady.…

To continue, Mrs. Dubose was not nice to Jem and Scout in anyway, she was fast to judge them and Atticus without any reason. Often Jem and Scout would find themselves walking by her house on their way to somewhere and if she was on her porch, she was there firing off mean and hateful things about their behavior or what they would end up like. Though it wasn’t Jem or Scout fault that she was doing this, they still tried to stop her prejudice: “We could do nothing to please her. If I said as sunnily as I could, ‘Hey, Mrs. Dubose,’ I would receive for an answer, ‘Don’t you say hey to me, you ugly…

“It is not our differences that divide us, it is our inability to recognize, accept, and celebrate those differences,” said Audre Lorde, a Caribbean-American writer, and civil rights activist. In this quote she is saying that if we just agreed that we are different, and we won’t alway get along, then the world would be a more peaceful place. Even in today’s society people are pulled apart from others because of their differences. Even so the society today is better than it was during times like America in the 1930’s, on the Indian reservations, and in Europe between Jews and Christians.…

After Mrs. Dubose, a neighbor, calls Atticus a “nigger-lover” and Jem destroys her flowers, Atticus agrees to make Jem fix the damages, even though she has been rude to them. “Jem, she’s old and ill. Dubose is an important character who teaches Jem and Scout a very crucial lesson about perseverance and care to one another. Mrs. Dubose is important to the novel because not only does she teach a lesson about perseverance, she also taught Jem and Scout the correct mannerisms when speaking to people who are elder than they are. She is also important because she teaches Jem why it is important to not disrespect his elders, like he did to her before. Unknowingly, Mrs. Dubose was actually very ill. She was addicted to morphine and on the verge of death, which Atticus states, “Jem, She’s old and ill.…

Dubose changes throughout the chapter, causing him to mature. At first, Jem believes her to be an “old hell-devil” (Lee, 128); however, that changes when Atticus explained to Jem that he made Jem see Mrs. Dubose because he “wanted [Jem] to see what real courage is” (Lee, 128). Jem’s past interaction with Mrs. Dubose left him seeing her as nasty and mean because she insulted him and his family. He is unaware of the hardships she overcame, but when Atticus explains to him how brave Mrs. Dubose is, he sees her in a new light and begins to mature into a compassionate adult.…

During the 1930s in the American South, racial disparity intensified with the growth of racist attitudes and segregation. Harper Lee’s 1960 classic literary novel “To Kill a Mockingbird” was successful in delicately portraying this racial segregation. Just two years later, Robert Mulligan directed the Oscar winning, 1962 film adaptation, taking the novel’s challenged tropes to the big screen, much to the appeal of fans. The novel and film adaptation had displayed similarities and differences that distinctly evoke emotion in its audiences. The film using film techniques and performances to create anticipation.…

To me To Kill A MockingBird is about becoming understanding . The main character is a girl named Scout Finch and the book tell's it from her POV on how she see's her life and the people in it. This is a speical book I would recommend because I feel as though you can learn important values from it like I did. I learned 2 major lessons that stuck out to me. The first lesson that I learned was to never judge people by how they could act or their history.…
