Chapter Twenty-eight begins with a Halloween pageant that unfortunatly does not go so well for Scout. As the pageant ends Scout is forced to walk her journey home in the pitch black without shoes. As Scout and Jems journey continues they start to hear suspisious noises coming from behind them. They originally think that it is their friend, Cecil, who is trying to scare tham for what would be the second time that night. They both try calling out to him in a playful way, but when he does not respond they begin to think that it might ne something much more serious.
