The main events of Chapter 20 and 21 are Dill and Scout meeting Mr. Raymond, Atticus giving his final statement and resigning to the fact that Tom Robinson’s chances are slim, and the reveal of the case verdict. Dill after being sickened by the inferior way Mr. Gilmer was talking to Tom, heads outside with Scout. While they sit they run into Mr. Dolphus Raymond who offers Dill a drink. As Dill and Mr. Raymond talk they realize the truth in his actions, how he lives the way he does because he likes it and yet no one understands that, except for children. Soon they go back to the courtroom to hear the end of Atticus’s ending speech. Here Atticus is again standing up for Tom because he has given his all during this case to give Tom his best chance
