Chapter 1: In the beginning the narrator introduces the reader to multiple characters these character are her brother Jem, Dill, Atticus, Calpurnia and Boo Radley. We also learn that the story takes place during The Great Depression and in Maycomb, Alabama. As the story continues, we learn that the narrator’s name is Scout. The narrator’s mother has died when she was two. The family has a chef, Calpurnia who has a mother-like presence to the narrator and her brother. Scout and Jem meet a new friend named Charles Baker Harris but people call him Dill. Dill is from Meridian, Mississippi and stays with his Aunt Rachael during the summer. After befriending Dill, he has decided to try to make Boo (or Arthur) Radley come out of his excluded, ominous home by giving Jem a dare to touch the house. Since Boo Radley has not come out of his home for 15 years.As Scout, Jem and Dill left the Radley house they saw a tiny movement from an inside shutter. …show more content…
The narrator would be starting school in a week. When school had started we meet Miss. Caroline who wasn’t older than twenty-one, has auburn hair and was “pretty”. She was also the narrator’s first grade teacher who is irritated at Scout’s reading skills, to the point where she doesn't want Atticus to teach her how to read anymore. Miss. Caroline also checked the kid’s lunch to see what they are going to eat until she sees that Walter Cunningham doesn’t have lunch and tries to give him a quarter to buy lunch, the narrator tells Miss. Caroline that Walter’s family (The Cunningham’s) is poor. As a result, Miss. Caroline hits the narrators hand multiple times with a ruler and she ends up standing in a corner for a very short time until the bell for
