The story mentions that Jem, Dil, and Scout sneaked into the Radley’s house at night to see how Boo, the evil character in this story, looked like and if he was alive. They saw a shadow moving which scared them. It made them run away. Jem couldn’t escape with his pants, so he left them there. They left and then saw a crowd of people around the Radley’s house with Mr. Nathan having a loaded shotgun. He supposedly missed a Negro and made them run away. He stated that if he sees a white nigger person around, he would shoot him (Lee 50-55). This shows that the Radley is racist because he is assuming the person that invaded his house is a colored person. Making him seem as he hates colored people, and thinking white people wouldn’t do such a thing. A Negro would not pass the Radley’s place at night. They would cut across to the sidewalk and whistle as they walk (Lee 9).
