The Central idea of To Kill a Mockingbird The main ideas of To Kill a Mockingbird, is that you shouldn’t hurt the people who don’t do anything to you, the ones who are just nice. There are examples of “mockingbirds” in the book that don’t actually mean someone being a “mockingbird”. Another central idea is also racism. Harper Lee doesn’t really say that you should hurt black people. Instead, Atticus says “Shoot all the blue jays you want, if you can hit 'em, but remember it's a sin to kill a mockingbird." What Atticus is saying is that black people don’t hurt anyone, they just go along with their life. That is why it is a sin to kill/make fun of a black person. In the book there are two main people who are represented as a “Mockingbird”.
