Mayella stated that Tom Robinson had raped her. During the trial Atticus was pointing out every way it was impossible for Tom to commit such a crime, seeing he only had one good arm. “Who beat you up? Tom Robinson or your father? No answer. What did your father see in the window, the crime of rape or the best defence to it? Why don’t you tell the truth, child, didn’t Bob Ewell beat your up?”Although Atticus would have had any jury Mayella could not admit to the fact that Tom did nothing wrong, or that her father was the one who beat her up. .Atticus is also had a moment before the trial that showed the theme very well. When Atticus was appointed to the case he had to decide whether or not he wanted to take the case and have the challenges that are brought with it, or not take it and show that he can 't do his job well. In Atticus’s mind he didn 't have a choice. Atticus explains it to Scout like this, “The main one is if i didn’t i couldn’t hold up my head in town. I couldn’t represent this country in the legislature, I couldn’t even tell you or Jem not to do something again.”. Both of these things represent the theme in a notable way.

The first important decision comes from Gaby at the beginning of the book. “I realized early on that, even though I loved all of them, I didn’t want to follow in the footsteps of my family members.“ Gaby had a choice and she had chosen to not be like them and become a teen aren 't like everyone expects.. I find this the most important decision made throughout the story. The second was, “But i couldn’t have done that without Jorge’s approval.”. This is when Gaby, Jorge, and Gaby’s mom are planning the way the project will work and who to tell. Although Jorge wanted to tell his parents, Gaby pointed out reasons why that wasn’t the best idea. Jorge then agreed and didn’t tell his parents that Gaby’s pregnancy would be fake. This also shows how much importance he has in all of
