“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.” In the stories of To Kill A Mockingbird and The Chosen, a few of the characters portray Christ-like characters while others have difficulty. Each character has many troubles but continue to work their hardest for what is right. Atticus raises his two children as a single father and lawyer and he even defends a black man. They all have differences but do three best to live be Christ-like. Atticus, Miss Maudie, and Mr.Malter are all Godly people who do their best to help others while keeping Christ in the centre of everything.

Atticus Finch, the father of Scout and Jem, portrays a Christ-like character in many ways, especially to his children. He willingly would sacrifice his life for his children, and as a single-father, he does everything he can to raise them up. As a lawyer, Atticus defends a black man who everyone assumes is guilty, but Atticus knows that he is not, and that everyone is equal no matter what race. She always has open arms for the children and serves them cakes, and allows them to play in her garden. Always going to church and helping with charitable societies, she doesn’t allow herself to follow the crowd of trouble. During the court case, she was one of the only people who stayed behind because she found it unnecessary. During the story one day as Miss Maudie gardens her yard, a few villages come by and diligently accuse her, and instead of replying with bitterness she replies back with truth and scriptures, which models a great example to people. “Miss Maudie answered: ‘A merry heart machete a cheerful countenance!’” (159).
