Furthermore, both characters “walk around in love with the idea of a thing instead of the reality of it” (257). Without the power of words, however, Edgar becomes a more potent observer.…

Hamlet is mirrored in a few ways in the sixth chapter of Song of Solomon. One way is the way in which Guitar is talking about the possibility of his death with Milkman in chapter six. Guitar is talking about how he became part of the group that kills white people and is doing it for the greater good, to avenge the terrible deaths of thousands of black people in the past. He says in response to Milkman saying he is going to get caught at some point, “ ‘ Maybe. But if I’m caught I’ll just just die earlier than I’m supposed to - not better than I’m supposed to.…

In Hamlet, Shakespeare utilizes a play within a play about “The Murder of Gonzago.” It was essentially a ploy to make Claudius guilty of the murderous deed he committed on King Hamlet. While it does act as a way to portray the characters of the initial play in a different light, acting as creators and actors, it demonstrates a way to reflect the plot and characters of the original play. In Act III Scene 2, Hamlet acts as a director for a play called “Murder of Gonzago,” or Mousetrap.…

" Have you a daughter?" he asks Polonius (II.ii.182), and goes on to draw Ophelia into his morbid train of thought, which has been about the sun's power to breed maggots in the dead flesh of a dog. " Let her not walk i'th' sun," he says, echoing his earlier statement, in the opening scene with Claudius, "I am too much in the sun" (I.ii.67). The echo hints that Ophelia is already in some sense Hamlet's double here: both are endangered by the sun which is an emblem of kingly power, and both are also endangered—though in significantly different ways—by…

I disliked the fact that Hamlet over thought every little thing and was unable to kill Claudius when the many opportunities he was given arose. But when it came to killing Polonius, and sending Rosencrantz and Guildenstern to their deaths, after finding his own letter ordering his death, that was easy and he acted on impulse. Which is what made me question Hamlet’s sanity. Was Hamlet enjoying acting insane and subconsciously did not want it to end therefore not really wanting to kill the king? When Hamlet was in the graveyard and met the grave digger who had no sympathy for the dead which offended Hamlet, I agreed with Hamlet.…
