The clear blue sky. The refreshing sea breeze. The gentle rustling of viridescent palm fronds. The rhythmic crash of waves hitting the shoreline. The distant caw of seagulls. Even though it was just Trixi and me on the small, unnamed island, there was always a plethora of activities and adventures to partake in. Trixi, with her childish curiosities, never failed to keep herself entertained, and her antics never failed to entertain me either but for the most part, I spent my time increasing my knowledge of the world through the books passed down from a bygone civilization. Even today, on our usual route to go down to the scenic beach, Trixi had managed to ‘discovered’ a new salamander. “Look Hexa! Scout’s honor!” Trixi promised eagerly while dragging me towards a path. “And guess what? I’ve even checked out some paths that could take us to the mountain! Aren’t I so prepared?”
“Prepared to fail, that’s what,” I mumbled under my breath, “And you aren’t a scout, nor do you have any honor.” We had been trekking through the jungle for about four hours when we arrived at the foot of the immense mountain, it’s peak barely visible from where we were standing. If I had been more perceptive, maybe I would have been able to notice the thin wisps of smoke emerging from the top and the subtle tremors of the earth.
We stood silently for a minute, admiring the mountain until Trixi spoke up. “I want to go up the mountain, not all the way but I want to get a better view and then we can go home.”
I shrugged my shoulders, “Guess that’s fine with me.” Trixi beamed up at me with a toothy smile, eyes sparkling. We had made it up about a quarter of the way to the top when the ground started to rumble violently. The wind picked up and the air felt blisteringly hot, every lungful made me feel like I was being scorched from the inside

“The Tiger With No Eyes” We had made a complete stop in front of Halawa District Park Gym.
