With literature pieces such as “To Kill a Mocking Bird” by Harper Lee and “Nothing Gold Can Stay” by Robert Frost, they work together in showing how one thing that use to be accepted has changed due to time. These pieces challenged the status quo of the time period they are from along with today’s world with things still prevalent such as white supremacy riots and racial deviation. It might not be as bad as it once was, but we have a far way to come. “People generally see what they look for, and hear what they listen for.” (Lee…) This is a perfect example of what society was and is. Society is judgmental and scared to change, even though some change is good; however, as the quote says people see and hear what they want. The first piece of literature to look at is “To Kill a Mocking Bird”. The world views things as perfect from their perspective and they think that it will be perfect forever. Except it isn’t, with time things develop (especial society) and things that were once the status quo may not fit “perfectly” anymore. Thus, causes an upset with some of the people that want change in today’s world. Altogether, if you view both pieces of literature together, they work very well. They work together by showing the imperfections of society in the way that go against the status quo. In the way it is challenged together is that they know no matter how hard they try to keep perfection in modern day, that you can never truly reach perfection.
