The main characteristics of a survivalist are displayed in the story “To Build A Fire” through the characters mindset and actions while facing the true severity of naturalism and realism. In this story, the main character travelled through the unforgiving and challenging landscapes of Alaska in extremely cold temperature conditions. He has his dog which was his companion. All throughout the play, he learned how to build a fire the right way by being observant to those times he did it the wrong way. Throughout the play, the character learns that your mindset can be enough to get you through everything, all while having limited resources. The main characters actions displayed numerous characteristics of a survivalist. He faced the challenge
