Intelligence Argumentative Essay In “To Build a Fire “ by Jack London it states,” Life is not always a matter of holding good cards, but sometimes, playing a poor hand well.” People have to use your intelligence to guide yourself and be able to care for yourself and each other when there is no one else around. People should not always follow their natural instinct because it leads them to a bad solution. In the short story “To Build a Fire” Jack explains that “ if his feet are and he fails he can run along the trail and for half a mile to keep his blood moving. But the blood in wet and freezing feet cannot kept moving by running when it is 75 degrees below (London 71).” Jack is showing that he thinks that by running it will help him keep moving but it would not help because it is negative 75 degrees. His natural instinct is a horrible to decision to help him survive because it can make it worse than what is happening. On the other hand people that use their intelligence they come up with smart solutions to their problem or actions instantly and they fix their problem to help them survive. In the short story, “Left for Dead” Weathers explains, “ Every Time I tried .. to climb the ...ledges, I would fall. ...First, I instinctively put out my hands to break the fall, but I didn’t want to compound the effects of the frostbite by further damaging my hands…( Weathers 2).” When weathers was climbing the ledges he used his intelligence to know how to break his fall without damaging himself more so he can survive. People having intelligence is a better solution to have so we have more chances in surviving the problem we are encountering in a life or death
