Suspense, death,anxiety and hesitation; these all focus around survival, which lets people go over their cutoff points and see what they are truly capable of.Survival is a blend of mental, emotional and physical challenges. Despite the fact that there are numerous stories that challenge man over his capacities and abilities,there are two stories that show survival that question our strength and dominance as human beings. “The Revenant” a motion picture by Alejandro González Iñárritu and “To Build a Fire” by Jack London are both about characters that have gotten themselves in a fight between nature and man. “The Revenant” is filled with many kinds of violence that humans can do to each other- murder, rape, scalping, and castration. It may be hard to watch on the big screen, but there is a point to all this violence in this movie. Director wants the viewer to start to distinguish when violence is appropriate and when it crosses over the line and becomes inappropriate and unnecessary. One of the ways the director does this is to show the viewer the violence that happens instinctively in nature. Whereas in the short story “ To Build a Fire ” , the author does not describe the the violence to great extent as it was shown in the movie “ the Revenant” . it shows how a person can become violent in order to save himself in any way. The director potrayed the rebirths of Hugh Glass several times which movie justifies the meaning of name. The first resurrection of Glass when he is buried, still alive, in the grave which Fitzgerald has made for him. Glass is tossed into the grave by Fitzgerald, Glass is additionally left to die by the character of Bridger. Afterward, when Glass has to dive into the icy stream water to escape Arikaree. third resurrection comes after he is placed in a hovel made of tree branches during the snowstorm by his improbable friend in need, Hikuc, a “Good Samaritan” if there ever was one. He cares and feeds for Glass. last rebirth comes after he and his horse are compelled to jump off a bluffed or be murdered. Glass's life is again rescued by a tree when his fall is stopped by the tree’s limbs. Breathing is also an important topic in “The Revenant”, it is featured many times during the movie: not only talk of it, but genuine breath. The mother bear’s breath steams up the camera lens as does Glass’s breath many times during the movie. A reminder that as long as you are breathing you can battle for survival. The movie shows how to suvrvive alone in the nature whereas , the story is an example of how not to suvive. and lead to one’s death is that the man is exceptionally haughty and too self-assured in himself.
