To Become A Servant Leader

Servant leadership is a philosophy and a set of practices that enriches the lives of individuals, builds better organizations and ultimately creates a more just and caring world. This is the definition given by the founder Robert Greenleaf (1904-1990) in 1970, a retired AT&T executive. I think one must know the definition of both leader and servant to get a better understanding of servant leadership. Servant is a person who performs duties for others; a devoted and helpful follower or supporter. A leader is the person who leads or commands a group, organization, or country. This person is first or principal performer of a group. I will talk about some of the ideas of servant leadership. I will explain why I believe in the Servant leader philosophy. I will explain how I as servant leader can maintain the desire to stay a servant leader. I will briefly, talk about the nine qualities of the servant leader.

Find out what made them happy in being this type of leader? What gave you energy? What person inspired you? In asking oneself questions, servant leaders must not neglect themselves. This type of person with this leadership style needs to learn how to take care of their own personal needs. If this person do not take of their own personal needs than a disaster will occur. This person will explode and make a situation an unpleasant one. A servant leader should be helping themselves and others. A servant leader should read, take time for themselves, and/or have family and friends keep them occupied. These activities will help them keep the stress levels down to a
