From the prolog at the beginning he tries to establish who Christ is. He makes clear that this second person of the Trinity, was in all ways divine but assumed flesh for our sake. Johns gospel leaves out the virgin birth of our Lord and one may ask why I’m thinking as Johns gospel was the last to be written, he was familiar with the other three so that event was well documented especially in Luke so it was unnecessary and would take away from the main objective. John also tries to establish that a new relationship to the Father is being established through the work Jesus does here on earth. Showing Jesus relationship to the Father but more than that it shows our relationship to Jesus. When Jesus states His relationship to the Father, He carries it over to our relationship with Himself and how we can do nothing apart from Him. So without abiding in Jesus we can’t become fruitful as he is the vine and we are the branches and only through abiding in Him can we bear fruit that
