Some may not understand or agree with the statement “To be great is to be misunderstood,” from Emerson, but I believe that this aphorism is a perfect description of every great person who ever lived because every person worth knowing or learning about has been judged by others without deserving it. I have experienced this first hand within the past year of my life. While I know I’m not the greatest athlete in the world, I consider myself to be one of the top athletes in the school. When I decided to join the football team there were many people who questioned me saying, “what do you think you are doing?” or “Don’t you know you are too small to play football?” Hearing those things, as a competitor pushes you to a place where you disregard
