TJMaxx opened its first store in 1977 and the company has continued to grow over the years. TJMaxx is a popular off- price retailer that offers brand name clothing, furniture and accessories a great value. Our store prices for the same brands that you would get at a department store are anywhere from 20%- 60 % less than department stores. TJMaxx is not an outlet store because they use many vendors for buying products and is not like an outlet store that usually has one main vendor. Our store has a unique way when it comes to inventory, we don’t always get the same merchandise every week. They get many delivers a week, but the merchandise is not always the same. Our company does not discriminate applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, age, disability, and status. The company also accommodates employees with disabilities that follow the American with disabilities act with state and local law. Organization polices had five principal areas which included management leadership, education and training, performance and accountability, work life balance, and career development and planning. Through leadership they did research and tests before creating and the diversity program. For the education and training they did seminars and workshops to make employees aware of diversity in the workplace and have them understand the reason for having diversity in the workplace. Performance and accountability gives business plan to meet certain goals and have managers be accountable to make sure that goal are met. Work- life balance is accommodating plan that fits the employees lifestyle needs. Some stores associates even visited St. Jude’s and had a holiday party for the patients and their families. I think that the company should continue to be involved in these organizations and be involved when there are charities, food panty’s and other events in the community. State/ Country this level deals with disadvantage populations such as welfare recipients, domestic violence victims, and youth and distress. In 1999 TJX founded the youth business institute (YBI) in the Boston area the idea was to provide basic skills and training for successful in school and the workforce. There is an 11 week program that use under-recourse high schools in the U.S. TJX employees volunteer their own time to teach students job skills and get them on a career path. This program also works on time management, budgeting, resumes, and interviewing. In 2012 theYBI has graduated over 1,400 students and has rewarded over $900,000 in scholarships to students and have employed 750 program graduates to full and part-time jobs. I think that the company should continue this program that gives youth the skills that they need to succeed and find a career.
