Nursing excellence is the ability to improve the quality and safety of patient care by inspiring nurses to achieve their highest potential, thereby providing the highest standard of care. Nursing excellence is obtained through innovation, education, research, and the collaboration of several organizations at the state, federal, and international levels. For the purpose of this discussion, I will discuss the purpose of two organized nursing organizations. The discussion will include; the organizations purpose, the impact the organization has on nursing practice, what role the organization plays in nursing education and research, and what part of nursing excellence does the organization provide. Lastly, I will discuss if I would support each of the organizations as a nurse.

TJC’s purpose as a not-for-profit organization is to improve community health care by evaluating and providing accreditation and education for health care systems and organization across the United States (Ferenc, 2013). TJC impacts nursing care by providing standards to improve patient safety and quality of care, and to provide guidelines on nursing care is provided. TJC impacts nursing education and research by improving the environment of care, health and safety design, infection control and prevention, medication safety, and patient safety (The Joint Commission, 2017). Continuous education and research is needed to meet the continued improvements and standards of the TJC. TJC is a huge part of nursing excellence by being a global resource for healthcare systems by providing solutions to improve patient safety and quality of care.
