For the final project I will compare two works of art from different medium and explain their common theme of beauty and compare it to a contemporary work that also shares the theme. The first work is a beautiful painting by Botticilli called “Birth of Venus” and the second is a poem by Poliziano called “Stanze per la Giostra” that describes the painting. They were both done in the Early Renaissance period in Italy. I will compare both works and show how each expresses the beauty of Venus (one in the form of a painting and the other with words from a poem). They will also be compared to a contemporary work of art to show how beauty is perceived today and if it has and/or has not changed throughout the centuries.…

She stretches her neck to accept the kiss of Jupiter, with her cheek in pinky blush and lips slightly open. Her joyous pose together with her eyes looking blandly into the air suggest the intensity of this pleasurable experience. According to Jones, “Correggio saw the ancient myths, without any spiritual or philosophical veiling, as sexual stories. His classical paintings use painterly refinement to give jaw-dropping reality to the licentious tales of the ancients in what he plainly intends as fun.” Such physical and sensual delight is delivered to the viewers through both Correggio’s depiction of human body and his mastery in his use of color.…

The heterogeneity of the S. Marco bowl includes not only a wealth of information but also a network of relationships of different levels of meaning. The origin of the individual parts, their materiality, the fragmentation and the gesture of the details demand possible interpretation in the assembly and observation of the object. The Byzantine makers and artisans served as the viewers of the conventional conception of the iconic characters, trying out ideas to ensure that their references could be read as allusive meanings. In short, S. Marco bowl remains to be a visible example of combined elements. It’s not precisely a revival of classical art, but rather the object holds onto the last remnants of a source whose strength was now less in the subject matter and more in the conveyance of a certain form or appearance.…

We as the viewers of art begin at the focal point of the painting Naked Maja, a reclined female nude depiction, oil on canvas created before 1800 (MUSEUM PRADO). It scales at 98 x 191 cm 1800 and was painted by artist Francisco de Goya Y Lucientes from Fuendetodos, Zaragoza and is now in the Museo del Prado in Madrid for public viewing (MUSEUM PRADO). Where the observer's eyes are first drawn when looking upon Naked Maja, is her face, and more distinctly her eye. Mostly due to the tendency of humans needing to make eye contact or to peer upon one's face to identify or relate to the person or in this case “figure”. Her face is shown simply with delicately opened eyes, soft rosy cheeks and brown curly hair, which falls down her left shoulder,…
