Before he became an individual artist he worked with Giorgione and painted pastoral landscapes. He also sketched many pictures, an example of which is, “Landscape with Goat.” Titian’s first commissioned piece was the, “Assumption of the Virgin.” A piece made for the high altar of Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari, in which he used a lot of bold colors. Titian was also famous for creating portraits of leading figures. An example of one is a painting of Pope Paul III, which took him six months to paint. He was also invited into Charles V court to paint his portrait. A lot of Titian’s paintings had to do with Roman goddesses, usually Venus. An example of a Roman inspired painting was “Venus and Adonis." Which he created for Philip II, and got inspired by Ovid’s “Metamorphoses.” Titian’s soon developed a new style which was much different than his beginning style.
