Tiziano Titian Influences

Tiziano Vecellio, or better known as Titian, was a leading artist during the Italian Renaissance. Although he was grand artist, many are oblivious to who Titian is. Titian was born sometime in 1488 in Pieve di Cadore, Italy. Because he was born during the Italian Renaissance, a period where the arts and literature escalated to a new level of importance, Titian was bound to be raised around the arts. In fact, he began his life as a painter at the early age of ten when he was sent with his brother, Francesco, to Venice to begin apprenticeships for painting. Titian first began his apprenticing with the Venetian artist Sebastiano Zuccato. Soon after the aspiring painter finished his work with Zuccato, he went and worked with many well known painters such as Giovanni Bellini and Giorgione; they were leading artists during that period. These influential artists played a major role in influencing Titian’s painting style, the use of colored pigments. Titian’s use of pigments became recognized by many after first major commission in 1516. He became more productive in the arts as his popularity grew painting works such as the Assumption of the Virgin, his first major commission, in 1516-1518 and the Worship of Venus in 1518-1519. After he married his wife, Cecilia, in 1525 they had two sons and a daughter. Their first child, Pomponio, grew up and became a priest. The second son of Titian and Cecilia was another boy named, Orazio, who later followed his father’s footsteps as an artist and served as Titian’s chief assistant. His third child, however, a daughter named Lavinia died during infancy. Cecilia then died soon after as well. Alas, tragedy struck again when a plague claimed the life of Titian on the 27th of August in 1576. This same plague soon became the cause of his son Orazio’s death a few months
