Introduction
The sinking of the Titanic on its first voyage was one of the most horrific events in history. The ship hit an iceberg and sank. Over 1,500 people died.
Building the Titanic
In March 1909, work begins on the Titanic. At the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast Ireland, nonstop work for two years. On May 31 is the largest movable manmade object by this time in history. It made its way the slipways and into the river, more than 100,000. People attending the launching.

Each lifeboat could hold 40 to 65 the available lifeboats were able to hold 1,178 people, about one third of crew and passengers. Only 18 were used loading between 11:45 -2:15 AM though some of the lifeboats collapsed. Boat B floated away upside down minutes before the ship upended and sank. They were secured with doors and hatches to prevent the lower deck from easily gaining access to and swamping the boats.
Captain:
Captain Edward john smith, Was a British Merchant navy officer. He served as master of numerous of white star line vessels. He is best known as the captain for the RMS Titanic. Born 27th January died. Smith married Sarah Eleanor Pennington in 1887, after his death on the RMS Titanic in 1912 they say in 1931 she committed suicide. Smith and Sarah had a daughter named Helen Melville Russell-Cooke on the 2nd of April 1898 died August 1973 age 75.
Last survivor:
Millvina Dean was the last survivor of the titanic and the youngest to board at 2 months. She was born on the 2nd of February 1912 in Branscombe England and Died on 31st of May 2009 in Hampshire, England. Millvina died of pneumonia age 97. Dean’s parents decided to leave United Kingdom and immigrate to Wichita, Kansas to start a new life. Her family were not supposed to board the RMS Titanic but due to a coal strike they were forced to board Titanic. Her mother had a strange feeling that something was going to happen she didn’t want to
