Titanic Final Draft The history of filmmaking in America goes way back to the early 1900’s. The film Titanic, written and directed by James Cameron in 1997, is the best film of all time. With the support of the countless awards it received in its favor, this film is loved by people all around the world. He is a Canadian filmmaker, inventor, engineer, philanthropist, and deep-sea explorer. “He was born August 16, 1954 in Kapuskasing, Ontario, Canada. He initially pursued physics as a student at California State University, Fullerton, but he left to follow his cinematic dreams” (Bio.). In 1978, Cameron made his first film, a science-fiction short called Xenogenesis. The film helped him get a job with New World Pictures, a company run by famed B movie director Roger Corman. Many things happened in his life, but after many other films he created he began directing he then began a massive undertaking with his story Titanic, “a movie about star crossed lovers trapped aboard the doomed Titanic ocean liner. To recreate one of the greatest disasters at sea in history, “Cameron had a special studio built in Mexico, which featured a 17-million-gallon water tank and 775 foot replica of the Titanic”(Bio.). The movie has to continue rolling while an edit occurs. Also, the film portrays a great number of features of mainstream film. Parallel editing is a technique that is seen in the film Titanic. Several scenes in the film are examples of this. In the scene where they just run into the iceberg, there is parallel editing where they cut back and forth. They cut back and forth from the chase scene, and finally reveal the escape of the Jack and Rose. As Jack and Rose escape, the ship hits the iceberg and they are there to witness it. This creates more suspense in the film, as moments ago everything seemed fine, and then all of a sudden everything is in chaos. “Then, the film’s opening scene opens at a banquet in which all the guest are seated listening to a man give a speech about who they are all honoring that night”(Cinema Tech). The film uses a reflexive style in that the opening scene is shown with what seems like a formal narrator doing a voice in which he speaks right to the viewer. The narrator literally states “it is important you know where you are and why you are here;” this act of speaking right to the viewer draws attention to the fact that they are watching a fictional
