Titanic Facts

It was 1908 in Cultra, United Kingdom, I was currently mining for my Fathers small family mining business making $1.96 a week. Just enough to feed my family and provide for them as much as I can. I got the job with White Star Line to travel to Belfast, United Kingdom to build and work on the RMS Titanic. My family was so excited for me except that we could not afford for them to go to New York also. I had a son, Kyle John Layfield four years old and my wife, Rose Harmon Layfield twenty years old. All that I had packed to bring with me was my four pair of work trousers, six dirty shirts, a portrait of my wife and I, and a white shell and three narcissuses my son had found right as he was telling me goodbye. We would be bunking together all the way to New York. I was put in the crew for putting the coal into the ship. We averaged about 825 tons of coal per day (“Titanic Facts.”). It was April 13th, and I had been on the ship for one day now. It was crowded and a lot of wealthy people were aboard the ship. There were few I had ran into working for the maintenance department, there was Isidor Straus (the owner of the Macy’s department store) who had brought his wife along, the most famous passenger was John Jacob Astor IV a real estate agent (“Titanic: 10 Famous People Who Died on the Titanic.”). So it was the 2nd day on the Titanic, everything was going smooth, so we thought. I had been putting the coal into the burner and we hear a couple rumors about icebergs warnings. That day the water had been very still and that night the moon wasn’t out (“Titanic Facts.”). I had been working hard all day ready to get to New York and experience the very smell and way of America. It was around 10:00 pm and I was wrapping up the hard working day and getting ready to get some good sleep to wake up
