1. The story “Tired, From New York” is about a woman named Jessi Klein who always loved Saturday Night Live. As a child, Klein would stay up late every weekend to watch her favorite sketches. In 2009, Klein thought she had landed her dream job as a writer for SNL. However, working for SNL was not as fun as she dreamt it would be. The job became physically, mentally, and emotionally draining. Being in a room with famous comedians every day put pressure on Klein to write the perfect skit. The more she focused on trying to impress her peers, the worse her skits became. When a friend realized how much Klein was struggling with her job, she sent her a link to self- help videos. The videos helped Klein realize that she had been trying too hard to impress her peers at SNL. From that moment on, Klein decided to step out of her comfort zone and write sketches from her heart. In the end, the skits that Klein believed were funny were the ones that succeeded.

Jessi Klein finished her story to my satisfaction. At the end of the story, Klein discussed what she took away from her experience at SNL. She learned to be brave and write from her heart. Another reason why I believe Jessi Klein concluded the story well is because her story came full circle. She started off happy, faced obstacles, and overcame those obstacles. The skit that earned Klein a job at SNL was written at a Starbucks. The sketch was quick and sloppy, but she thought it was funny. While working at SNL, her skits got worse because she focused too much on impressing others. When Klein overcame this obstacle, she started to write sketches that she believed were funny. The story ended in that same Starbucks, as Klein began to write something new. The ending of Klein’s story teaches the audience that no matter how difficult something becomes, there is always a way to turn it around and start

In the words of Gail Devers, “Sometimes we fall, sometimes we stumble, but we can't stay down. We can’t allow life to beat us down. Everything happens for a reason, and it builds character in us, and it tells us what we are about and how strong we really are when we didn’t think we could be that strong.” In the nonfictional, Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand, Louie Zamperini, being the clever man he is, demonstrates Dever’s words though the 36’ Olympics, a treacherous trek in the Pacific, and in many Japanese POW camps. In his early days in Berlin, Louie already began expressing his mischievous cleverness.…

One The actor’s name was Mark Kendall. One moment in the performance that especially stuck out to me was the “Green Eggs and Ham” bit. There was no real overarching narrative to give context to this particular scene, but it was towards the end of the performance. The skit consisted of Kendall reading Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Suess, however each instance of the words “green eggs and ham” was replaced with the word “nigger.”…

His claim that “stories can save us” (O’Brien 213) finds its first iteration in his first encounter with a dead body during the war. He finds the experience “way too real” (O’Brien 214), overwhelming him while the rest of his company easily produces a post-mortem narrative with the body. Perhaps more significantly, he saturates his account of Linda with notions of salvation, even to the extent that the film he remembers seeing with her told the story of “a man whose death and figurative resurrection saved the world from Nazi Germany” (Vernon 174). He first develops the motif externally, as he wants to use his authorial power to retroactively “save Linda’s life” (O’Brien 223), but gradually elaborates to the point where the salvation includes some form of himself, as he becomes “Tim trying to save Timmy’s life with a story” (O’Brien 233). Ultimately, his insistence on the ability of his inconsistent narrative to bring salvation conveys his personal necessity for the empirical comprehension of his artwork.…

During difficult, trying times some people feel helpless and give up way too easily. Others somehow find enough strength to find solutions to their problems. Whether giving up is done consciously or unconsciously, one thing for sure is that the outcomes are two immensely distinct scenarios. A door of hope is permanently shut when the will to try is lost. On the other hand, when we hold on a bit longer and have that small push—a voice that says, “keep going,” the possibilities are endless.…

I was able to see a different approach on how to grab the audience’s attention from the other director’s performance. The scene at the same time was very comical, but also held you on the edge of your seat with its high tension and wonderful transformation of a relationship between two characters on stage. This really grabbed my attention and taught me that a transformation of a relationship on stage really enriches the performance. Overall, the knowledge I gained from this activity in class really helped me establish a foundation and base for the mechanics of…

The film, Fed Up, focuses on the causes of obesity in the United States and how the government has failed to stop the food industry from putting extra sugar in their products. The beginning of the film opens with different warnings from doctors and The Journal of the American Medical Association about an epidemic that has seem to happen overnight. The epidemic mentioned would be the attack of sugar on products. Some of the reasons sugar has been labeled as an epidemic would be because around 80 percent of all processed foods in grocery stores have added sugar that have…
