These are serious points that can harm a persons life and its longevity if not properly taken care of. The transition from high school, to the workforce or college is a milestone in the lives of the young adults. No matter what their academic choosing or their career path is, young people must be aware of the complex problems that will stand before them, in order to magnify their potential for personal and professional success. Too many students do not obtain an education that appropriately prepares them for adult life. “College instructors estimate that around two in five (42%) recent public high school graduates were not adequately prepared by their prior education to meet the expectations of college-level classes, or the workforce…”(Kline and Williams). A wide variety of classes can be chosen and included in the high school curriculum that provides diversity in the classroom, however, it fails to contribute ones that provide life knowledge to our future citizens that is vital for economic stability and emotional …show more content…
Less than two percent of students claim that they have never been bored at school. Its no surprise that kids don 't enjoy school, and would rather be at the movies, or playing video games. But the underlining logic behind this boredom is worrisome and saddening. According to live science, about 75 percent of students indicate they are bored because the material being taught is not interesting. These same reasons for this boredom largely impacts the high amount of drop out rates among high schoolers. “The standard answer to the disengagement problem is that we need a more relevant curriculum”(Bauerlein.) By altering the material that is being taught to ones that are more attractive, we could also help decrease the drop out rate. From personal experience, I know that the classes that were the least useful to me, I didn 't pay as much attention to. Boredom can destroy an academic environment and achievement. However, if students knew that the information being taught was going to be vital for everyday function in life after high school, we would have more classroom interaction and participation. With this increase in participation, less students with be filled with boredom and choose to follow through with their high school career. Accomplishing this would solve many different problems at once, kill two birds with one
