Over the last decade, the majority of people are eating fast food. This one meal is often two-thirds to 2,000 calories, the recommended calories for one day. Studies show that a bacon clubhouse crispy chicken sandwich, a large fry, mozzarella sticks with marinara sauce and an oreo-mcflurry is an outrageous total of 2,010 calories (Johnson). After one meal from a fast food restaurant, people are almost guaranteed to gain weight if you are not active. The United States is facing an obesity epidemic. Researchers have concluded that the lack of sleep increases the risk of becoming obese. Sleeping balances the hormones that indicate whether you are full(leptin) or hungry(ghrelin) (“What Causes”). This has affected the educational system when teaching students. Instead of teaching physical education, they are emphasizing on how to operate technology. Students no longer know the importance of being healthy(“What Causes”). With technology being so entertaining and common, more people are sitting whether it be work, school work or leisure activities (“What Causes”). The Daily News reports that in 2014 the average American watches five hours of television a day and 35 in a week. Technology is also resulting in less physical demand at work (“What Causes”). Technology is basically running itself while people control the actions. For example, construction workers have different equipment to use instead of doing the same work by hand. Technology had made food easier to make as well. Statistics show that in the spring of 2016 they were 231,379 number of fast food restaurants in the United States (President). This number has continued to rise over the years, making fast food more accessible and more convenient. Unhealthy food is about $1.50 cheaper per day, or about $550 per year, than healthy food
