Tip Toeing Descriptive Writing

As I make my precarious way into the wood, it seems my cautious tip toeing is pointless, for with every step a twig or a leaf snaps underfoot. Nevertheless, I continue on, the sound of my footsteps reverberating with an impossible loudness through the surrounding foliage. I gaze upon the towering trees around me, noting that the mottled skin of their branches bear a pleasant resemblance to my own flesh; the burn scars which race up and down my whole body a constant reminder of my task. The wind begins to pick up and I am left without my sense of smell to aid me with my passage through the forest. I try, fruitlessly, to pick up a scent from the undergrowth, however, I discover to my disliking, human scat, which does point me in the right direction. I follow a slightly trodden-upon path as the dark, cloudy afternoon turns into night. I allow my senses to heighten and focus my mind on controlling every bodily movement. “You must be quick and you must be precise,” I heed Twin’s instructions. Once I come upon the sought-after clearing in the wood, I collect myself and quickly settle underneath a colossal maple tree. I grab my flatbow and quiver, loaded full with broad-headed arrows, from my pack and position myself behind a pale boulder nearby. I wait. …show more content…
My body awakens and the leaves on the maple seem to shiver in response. I quietly reach for an arrow and raise my bow in the direction of the sound. I must be quick and I must be precise. I stare straight ahead, never blinking for fear I might miss my chance. I wait. A few long moments pass and suddenly the moon reflects upon the porcelain skin of a white woman. I hold in a gasp as I rediscover the motives behind my duty -- I loved her once and because of this I nearly walk away from the scene, but I remind myself of her betrayal and how she left me to

Normally, it was not unlike Kolda to rise before a human had any right to, on the cusp of an ink-blotted morning, when the trees were still working tirelessly to shake the vestiges of dew from their waxy-leaves. When, on the horizon, a burnt orange ribbon lined its lip, radiating waves of indigo and cobalt and casting the world beneath it in an eerie, complacent glow. A creamy fog would trickle across the hyssop field from border of Sylph Grove, a merciful cover to nature’s cities beneath, blotting the cotton-hued blanket with splotches of bold lavender. The fog brought the smell of the mountains with it, mating with the wooden and charcoal scents of her home, to wrest her from her dreams. She would obey, rising seamlessly, donning her fur-lined…

Reflecting on the college application process, I noticed that the college essays were stressed very highly, but all the prompts ask for the same thing. Whether they are asking for an eventful moment, your passion, a hobby, or a chosen outsourced prompt, many students seem to convey the same messages in their essays. To get around this, one must ask a more inconspicuous prompt where the student’s character shows through their unique ideas. A prompt that is universal, conveys a meaning, and is always answered uniquely must ask for a narrative: Write a creative story. Walking through the woods one night, Agatha Johansson could not wait to arrive at her friend’s house.…

Broken from his thoughts, he heard noises. He would never know if he imagined them or if he heard them, but he looked down at the river and the voice emanated from a patch that he couldn’t take observation of. He was faced with a most difficult decision, should be abandon his post to see the commotion or should he do his duty and remain a sentry of the realm? The noise again made his decision for him as he removed the small bow from his back and replaced it with his too large battleaxe and moved surreptitiously down the path that led to the clear pool of…

Missiles could be seen in the distance exploding villages nearby, shots were fired followed by screams of terror and pain. Villages were found in pieces, and the dead left lying on the muddied, dirt ground. Survivors running for their life in tattered and soiled clothes. Nights were spent in the cold, without food, the fear of being killed, and no place that one can call safe. It was in the year of 1975, when the Khmer Rouge had finally taken over Cambodia.…

As the darkness of the horizon nibbled away the sun, the remaining ember set the sky aflame. Wood chips shot off the resilient trunk, as the silver-plated axe wielded by the bulky arms of the woodchopper dug into the trunk. Now bare and naked, its resilience absent. Drops of sweat tumbled down woodchopper’s side burns, dampening his thick, coarse and choppy beard. Fearful eyes of the forest, witnessing their homes savagely cleaved within the blanket of dense fog.…

As we walk, I feel the crunch of breaking thin ice, and the stickiness of the mud under my feet. I smell the crisp, clean aroma of the morning air. It was getting colder by the hour and what seemed to be a small forest turned into an enduring hike. Everyone was exhausted you could see the nervousness and wary in their eyes. There was this unusual eery silence no one seemed to talk, the only thing you could hear was the crunching of the leaves underneath our worn-out feet and the chirping and howling of the creatures of the night that the autumn wind threw our way.
