Tina In Shadow Health: A Case Study

Improved Essays
In this discussion board post, I will discuss two of the educational goals I had for Tina in Shadow Health. This will include the method of instruction that I used and the thought behind choosing the methods. I will also identify the tool used in measuring Tina’s understanding of each educational goal, and further discussing why I chose each tool used. Lastly, I will discuss any anticipated barriers as well as solution to the barriers that Tina may face in mastering these two educational goals.
The first educational goal I will discuss if for Tina to understand her prescribed medications including what the medication is for, when it is should be taken, and any side effects it may have. There is not one instructional method that is the better for all situations (Bastable, 2013). For this goal I would use a few instructional methods

I would discuss each medication as Tina is reading along on her written copy. Then I would use demonstration to teach her how to care for her inhaler and to show her how to properly give herself insulin. I would evaluate Tina’s understanding of the written and verbal education by having her read to me her list of medications including what the medication is used for, when she should take it, and the side effects of the medication. Evaluating the demonstrative teaching would be having her return the demonstrations I did for her. For example, I would show her how to use proper technique in using her inhaler and would have her repeat the steps for me to confirm her understanding. I would choose the written method because it allows Tina the opportunity for us to read over and discuss the information while she is in the hospital, and it gives her the information to refer back to while at home. The demonstrative technique was chosen, because having Tina repeat a task that she will be doing at home gives me instant verification of her understanding how to do the task. Using

Her challenging behavior is defined as when Ruth is out of her seat without being prompted to stand up during math or reading academic time.
