Do you ever wonder how all the different types of music came to exist? It’s a question I often ask myself. If we go back to the 1920s through the 1930s we can see that it was a time when new music was gaining popularity. That form of music was known as Tin Pan Alley and it was becoming a success with their different form of writing. Tin Pan Alley songs were based on romance and privacy which was very rare during those times. During that period of time many individuals faced racism and discrimination. With that kind of music around it was capturing the attention of many people. I believe Tin Pan Alley composers wanted people to hear music that gave them a different perspective of things and motivated them to think outside their reality.

New songs, new lyrics, new messages. Things that Tin Pan Alley songwriters might wanted to create. Giving everyone a break from the usual normality and talking more about love and other topics. Things like those were not seen in a place where racism rained and inequality lived. By creating a different tune and form of music obviously people were going to like it. For example, Tin Pan Alley songs were very unique in the way they were written, the songs were in first person using words like I, me, and we. This form was new to people in the 1920s and 1930s really getting the attention of an audience.
By writing about different culture and ideas Tin Pan Alley composers also might have done that because it was the only way to escape their reality. Issues of injustice and discrimination were very popular among individuals. By writing about things people had never seen before could speak to an audience who would respond. Because there was a lot of racism, talking about love could possible make us love one another not focusing on our color but our personalities. By speaking about rights maybe women could have the courage to fight for their equal rights. I believe those composers had
