In relation to learning outcome number two, I attained learning deeply about human conditions from the productions A Beautiful Thing and The Container. Both of these productions focused primarily on contemporary social issues and showed the negative and positive sides to the issue. In A Beautiful Thing, two young gentleman had trouble opening up to their friends and family that they were homosexual in fear of rejection. The boys only showed affection to each other behind closed doors until one of the boy’s mother found out about their relationship. Much like most films these days, the production had a happy ending and their friends and family accepted their sexuality. In my response to Into The Woods I had wrote Timothy Sheader, the director, “pursued his vision in carrying out a play incorporating well-known fairy tales and leaving behind a message to the audience: ‘be careful what you wish for’”. I would now change this response to say “The director of this film, Timothy Sheader succeeded in creating a production that enlightens his audience about the importance of education through popular Disney films. Sheader explains how the woods are symbolic of life and the decision to stay home or journey into the woods to pursue a dream, hope, or search for a specific item is a choice one will have to make. Throughout the play, the audience could see Sheader’s idea about the woods symbolizing life coming to reality. Much like the decisions the actors in the play had to make, in real life, people face the same problem. There is always either something or someone in the way of our dreams and we have to encounter road blocks before we are able to achieve our goal.” By unfolding this play as a whole and deeply analyzing the symbols and meanings behind the woods and the characters, my changed response shows that I have achieved learning outcome three.
